Mucosa or soft tissue borne surgical guides are great solutions for patients who are already edentulous. These guides are designed to rest on the mucosa with anchor pins as a support system. Many of these cases can be done in a flapless procedure for minimal post operative discomfort. These solutions can be utilized for the fixed All-on-x type case or for overdenture solutions. For a more accurate guide a dual scan is preferred utilizing radiographic markers on the patients denture. Radiographic markers can be purchased from suremark.com. It is important that the current denture be an accurately fitting denture as the surgical guide is an exact copy of the denture. If the denture does not fit correctly then a hard reline is recommended for accuracy.
